Welcome to St. James Lutheran School where the Good News of our Savior is preached and adhered to every day. St. Paul writes in Ephesians 2: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves. It is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. We are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

"We are God's workmanship through Christ to do good works" is our school theme this year. At St. James we want each child to know that he is loved by Jesus. We want each child to know that his sins are forgiven through the death and dying of Jesus Christ. We want each child to know that he is special and that God created him that way. God wants us to worship him. He wants us to honor him by word and deed. We do this not out of fear but out of love. We thank God by our actions, by our appearance, and by our words. We are an elite school because Christ is the headmaster. Without his assistance and guidance we can do nothing.
The teachers of St. James are dedicated to serve. Our mission is to train children in the Word by integrating the faith in all that we do. There will be times that we fail. There will be times that life just doesn't go as expected. Our students will face some of those same harsh realities of life, some more than others. Some of our children come from ideal homes; others do not. The seed has been planted through baptism. Our job is to water it. Give it plenty of sunshine. Nurture it through compassion, encouragement, and love. We want that seed to develop into a healthy plant that reaches heavenward.

St. James is accredited by the State of Indiana and the National Lutheran School Association. Our curriculum is based on state's standards. Our approach to education more or less follows a traditional style, but we do incorporate small group projects that integrate various parts of the curriculum together. We conduct a Social Studies Fair in the fall and a Science Fair in the winter. With our state of the art computer lab, we offer classes to students in grades K-8. St. James offers a diversified music program that includes choir, hand bells, and band. We also offer opportunities for students to participate in drama. Students in grades 5-8 take swimming instructions at the local YWCA as part of the P.E. curriculum.

St. James offers extra-curricular activities in athletics such as volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and track. We offer intramural basketball for students in the lower grades.

St. James Lutheran School is a mission arm of St. James Lutheran Church. The church has supported our school since 1850. Our school exists because our church body wants every child to come to the knowledge of truth which is to recognize that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
