Lessons and Carols

Lessons and Carols has become a well-loved tradition at St. James. Students from grades 4-8 will lead the service along with members of the St. James Adult Choir and instrumentalists from the community. Through a series of nine Bible readings and corresponding carols and hymns, this is a beautiful start to the Christmas Season.

The Service of Lessons and Carols originated in 1918 at King's College in England.  "The main theme," as stated by creator E. W. Benson, the first Bishop of Truro and later Archbishop of Canterbury, “is the development of the loving purposes of God …’ seen ‘through the windows and the words of the Bible."
