Green Classroom

March 29-April 2

This week we will be learning about Jesus riding into Jerusalem and Easter.  Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey with a colt to fulfill words foretold by the Old Testament prophets;  "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden'"  having done as Jesus asked, the disciples placed their cloaks on the donkey, and Jesus mounted the donkey.  As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the people spread their cloaks on the road before him to Honor him.  Others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.  The crowds went before Him and followed after Him, shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!  Hosanna in the highest!" Jesus' arival stirred up people in the whole city of Jerusalem, some asked "who is this?"  The crowds explained, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee"  We know him as Jesus, God's son and our Savior.

This week we will learn about Jesus the Good Shepherd.   Shepherds may have regarded their sheep fondly as pets, but the animals were much more too.  The shepherd needed the sheep for his livelihood.  The sheep needed the care, guidance, and protection the shepherd offered Sheep could easily become lost and separated from the flock, or they could fall into the dangers posed by thieves, robbers, and natural predators such as wolves.  Like obedient pets, sheep knew and listened for the voice of their shepherd.  They followed it.  Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is totally and completely committed to caring fo his sheep (his people). He willingly laid down his life in order to save us!

This week we will be including some fun activities such as shearing sheep, feed the farm animals, sticky sheep and a color pom pom sort to increase fine motor skills.

This week we will learn about a man with two sons.  One son asked his father for his inheritance early and his father complied.  The son then went to a far away country and spent all of his money in reckless living.  The son then got a job taking care of pigs, often times eating the same slop that he would feed the pigs.  The son realized how much better off his father's servants were than he was, and he decided to return home.  The son was worried what his father would say when he returned but when his father saw him he was overjoyed with love and joy he ran to him, embracing him and kissed him.  The father arranges a party to welcome him home.  Even when the older son questions the father's loving, forgiving and restoring actions, the father remains resolute and undeterred.  "Your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost and now he is found."

Jesus' own resurrection is further proof.  Jesus' promise to us of our resurrection is a sure promise.  Because Jesus lives, we will live also.  Thanks be to God!

Due to a week of cancelations and delays we were not able to fully do our lesson on Jesus feeds the 5,000 so we will be doing this lesson this week!

A large crowd followed Jesus as he went to the Sea of Galilee, they knew of his power to heal the sick.  The disciples did not know how they would be able to feed so many with only a basket of 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread.  Jesus prayed a prayer of thanks and took the bread and fish.  Jesus distributed the bread and fish and everyone had enough to eat, so much so that there were 12 baskets of left overs! By this miracle, many came to recognize that Jesus is God. Because Jesus is God he gives us good things including our food, clothes, family, friends and forgiveness.  He helps us to use our gifts well and not to waste them.  Because we love Jesus we thank God for His goodness!

Jesus calmly stood up and told the sea to "be still", the storm obeyed Jesus's command and the disciples were amazed.  Jesus told them they did not need to be frightened He was with them.  The same Jesus who stopped the storm that was frightening the disciples is with us to assure us we do not need to be frightened.  He is with us.  He is Immanuel: He is "God with us".

November 16-20

After God's miraculous deliverance from Pharaoh and the Egyptian army, God's people continued on to the land he promised.  God provided for his people along the way he told them the new land where they were going would be better than they could imagine.  God described the land to Moses saying it would flow with milk and honey.  God told Moses to send 12 men to investigate the land.  The men came back with reports of food in abundance, however 10 of the men were not in favor of going, they said the people were giants and stronger than they were.  Joshua and Caleb remembered what Moses had told them that this would be their new home, If God had promised the land to them they trusted God would help them again, just as he had helped them with the Egyptian army.  Sadly the people listened to the ten men and not Joshua and Caleb.  Because the people did not place their trust in God he would not allow them to enter the land.  It would be years before God's people would live in the land promised to them.  This week we will reflect on how God generously provides for our needs.

Two weeks ago we learned about Baby Moses this week we will learn about Moses when he is older, the man God chose to lead his people out of Egypt.  Moses saw God's miraculous works in a multitude of ways.  In Obedience to God Moses went to Pharaoh demanding that he let God's people go.  Pharaoh was not going to let the people go, they provided cheap labor.  God sent 10 plagues on Egypt and soon after Pharaoh released God's people.  Soon after Pharaoh changed his mind and started following Moses and his people.  God's people could not go any further they were at the Red Sea and Pharaoh and his army not too far behind.  God told Moses to hold out his walking stick above the water.  Then God sent a wind that parted the water to make a path for his people. God's people made it across but Pharaoh's army did not.  The path disappeared  and Pharaoh's army perished.  In this month of Thanksgiving let us lead our little ones in praising and thanking God for all he has done and continues to do for us!

September 28-Oct 1

What an exciting week last week! We had a blast learning about Noah and the great flood and having so much water play!  This week we are drying off and learning about the Tower of Babel.  The people of Babel were very prideful and wanted to make a name for themselves.  They used there skill for brick making to bring glory to themselves and not for the glory of God. They wanted to build a tower that could be seen for miles- a  tower that could reach heaven.  God mixed up their language to put an end to their prideful scheme.  The people of Babel were unable to communicate with one another and not finish the project.  We will focus on all the many things God gives us to do with our hands for good like, waving, wiggling fingers, building with blocks, picking up food and objects, blowing kisses, and stacking blocks!  We will have alot of fun with block building and knocking down this week!

This will be our last week on creation.  This week we will focus on the creation of birds, fish, animals and people! All creation gives witness to our creator.  As Christains we believe God created all living things including people.  Scripture tells us that all living things and creatures, the World in which we live were all created by his word.  But God did something different when it came to people.  Scripture tells us he formed a person much like an artist who is creating a beautiful sculpture then he breathed into that person the breath of life!  What a special privilege to be able to teach the little ones that God made them and all of creation!

There will be lots of fun big and small animals in the classroom!

March 9-12

This week we will focus on the story the Good Samaritan.  In this story a traveler was attacked, beaten, and left for dead.  Three men saw him, the first two, a Priest and a Levite passed him by.  The third man, a Samaritan stopped and cared for the man.  This story can help us realize that Jesus is the compassionate and kind traveler who comes to save us.  Jesus willingly gave up his own life for us.  God comes to us and helps us to show compassion and kindness to others.  This week we will focus on the Good Samaritan and also helpers from our community such as firemen, nurses, vets and Doctors.

In Matthew we read about children being brought to Jesus.  Even though the disciples thought Jesus was too busy to be bothered by children, Jesus let them know in no uncertain terms that he wanted to see, touch and pray for them.  We say that Jesus "blessed the children" but what does that mean?  Bless means "to confer God's favor" "to consecrate" .  Consecrate means "to be choosen for a particular purpose"  God has a purpose for every child. He planned for each of them before he created the world.

God's people made it across but Pharaoh's army did not.  The path disappeared  and Pharaoh's army perished.  In this month of Thanksgiving let us lead our little ones in praising and thanking God for all he has done and continues to do for us!

This week we will be talking about Joseph's family , the coat of colors, and fall colors around us.  Joseph was the son of Jacob and one of twelve brothers.  Jacob favored Joseph the most and gave him a beautiful robe, the kind worn by royalty.  This angered his bothers and they threw him into a well and sold him into slavery.  Years later as God directed the course of his life Joseph became the right hand man of Pharaoh and was instrumental in storing food for an anticipated seven years of famine.  Joseph's brothers came and bowed down to him as they requested food for their family, not recognizing their brother.  God helped the brothers forgive one another and Joseph asked his brothers and their families to live in Egypt.

We will have strips of colorful fabric with different textures for the children to explore and feel.

For art we will be doing some fun squish painting for Joseph's coat of colors.  We will make our own coat of colors with brown grocery bags, and colorful paper.  We will also do a fun fall craft by rolling a golf ball through paint!

In circle time we will do a felt board story about Joseph and his brothers.  We will also sing My God is so Big!, Jesus loves me and Autumn leaves are falling down.  We will continue to review blue square, and orange circle on our shape train.

Important dates:  October 19 No school fall break!

Have a Blessed Week!

September 30 – October 4th

Wow! I can not believe that we will be in October this week! We had a lot of fun learning about the Tower of Babel last week.  This week we will be learning about Abraham and how God came to Abraham and chooses him to be the father of his chosen people.  God asks Abraham and Sara to pack up all of their belongings and possessions and move.  Would we be willing to do that?  God gives Abraham many reasons to follow God's direction and said he would be the father of a great nation (Israel) God said he would bless him.  God gave Abraham faith and Abraham followed God's direction.  There will be fun "tents" set up in the room we can practice to march to!  We will also talk about different ways of transportation this week.  How did Abraham and Sara travel? How do we travel?

We will keep the Kinetic sand in the sensory bin one more week.  There will be cows, camels, goats, and cars in the bin.  The children will have fun traveling like Abraham and Sara through the desert and how we would travel by car!

Have a blessed Week!

September 23-27

There is kinetic sand in the sensory bin with blocks to build towers.

In art we will be doing some fun painting with lego blocks, foam blocks, stamping with sponges, making blueprints with white paint , blue paper and blocks, and finger painting shapes with sand and paint.  There is also going to be a fun sensory building project using foam blocks and shaving cream for mortar!

In circle time we will learn about the tower of  Babel with an interactive felt board story and song.  We will sing songs about our hands, open shut them and if you are happy and you know it.  We will also sing a song about the tower of babel to the tune I'm a little teapot.  We will be building the tower of Babel with cardboard blocks and knocking it down!  We will continue to learn shapes and colors with the shape train felt board song.  This week we will continue to work on the color blue and square shape.

It is going to be a great Week!

Blessings,

September 16-20

This week we will learn about Noah and the great flood.  God is holy and demands holiness.  We read in Genesis that when God saw the people's sinful unrepentant behavior he expressed sorrow at having created them.  God destroyed all the evil people in the world with a great flood.  God saves Noah and all that went into the ark.  God begins anew with Noah and his family.  Just as God saved Noah and his family from the flood God saves us from sin, evil, and the consequences  of sin through the life, suffering, death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus.  We receive this gift of God's love, care and forgiveness in Baptism.  Thank you God for your baptism!

What an exciting week!  We will have alot of water play in the class room.  There will be arks, boats, animals and water play in the sensory bin. On Wednesday we will put different items in the sensory bin to see if they will sink or float.  The children will have a chance to "make it rain" with sponges in the sensory bin on Thursday.

We will also do a fun experiment with water, saving cream and food coloring.  The children will help drop color into the water cloud mixture and watch as the colors "rain" down.

In craft we will be making rainbows, arks and gluing pairs of animals on Noah's Ark.

In circle time will sing "Good Ole Noah builds and Ark" to the tune of Old Mcdonald.  We will also sing, Rain Rain go away, the Butterfly song and do a fun Noah's ark puppet show and song.  We will talk about the color blue and the shape the square with a felt board.

We will read various books on boats, animals, Noah and Storms.  We will read the Pout, Pout fish again along with Noah and the animals two by two, What colors make a rainbow?  and Storm is coming!

It is going to be a great week!

Have a blessed week!
