Week of January 16-19, 2018

This is a short week with some busy days, so we will not have regular spelling  and reading tests on Friday.  We will begin a unit on slavery in Indiana by reading a book titled By Freedom's Light.  Our spelling and vocabulary words will come from those found in the book.  We will make a list from which to study. We will not have a memory passage this week, but some students have memory work from last week to recite since we missed Friday because of a snow day. We will continue working with fractions in math and have a mid chapter quiz on Wednesday.  Wednesday is also the day of the Science Fair.  Students can bring projects after school on Tuesday or before school on Wednesday.  Three students from our class will represent St. James in the Christian Schools Math contest on Thursday.  Good luck to Ben, Sophia, and Andrew as they work together competing against other 4th grade students. We do not have hot lunch on Wednesday, so please remember to bring a sack lunch to eat in the classroom.  We will be watching the movie Remember the Titans this week as part of MLK week in which we learn more about treating people with respect. Lutheran School's week is next week.  We are collecting cans of non-condensed soups and canned pasta for a service project for the week.  All cans should be brought to school by Friday of this week.  Our goal is 500 cans for the school.  Our bowling day on next Tuesday will be free if we meet our goal.  Thanks for your help with this.
