Quilts

Alpha & Omega
~Susan Hunnicut Linson

"This is my attempt to show pictorially what the Bible says about God's Church."

"The shape at the center of this quilt represents God.  It is gold, to represent God's majesty.  It is symmetrical to represent God's perfection.  The Greek letters Alpha and Omega in the center of the quilt are used, by God, in the Bible to describe Himself as the 'First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.'  The concentric circles radiating from the center of the quilt represent the power that comes from the God and permeates the entire universe."

"All the other shapes in the quilt represent the individual believer who is a part of the church.  Each person is created in 'God's image and likeness' and yet is not perfect as is God.  God has created each person to be uniquely themselves, no person is an exact copy of another."

"The intertwining of the shapes represent what the Bible says about the church.  The Bible says that we are supernaturally attached to each other and to God.  It says that together we make up 'the Body of Christ'.  It says that the moment we step into God's marvelous light we become a part of 'The Body'.  It says that the unique, God Given, talents of each individual are necessary for 'The Body' to function as God intended."

"The Black fabric in the border represents the darkness where all believers live.  The gold thread quilted into the border represents the power of God which is able to permeate even the darkness of unbelief and call people into the fellowship of 'The Body'."
