New Year’s blessings from the St. James Foundation Board!

Last year, the St. James Foundation, through its endowment, contributed over $33,000 to various areas within St. James Lutheran Church and School.

The Foundation’s Endowment was established to help offset some of the financial needs of our church and school. The Foundation’s Endowment funds are invested in a Moderate Balanced Fund within the LCMS Foundation. Our spending policy directs that the Foundation may use up to 3.5% of the total fund balance each year. This helps to ensure the funds are available for perpetual use.

Currently, there are four categories of funds each containing smaller individual named funds.  The four categories include:

  1. Unrestricted Fund – Fund that is used to provide support for any area of greatest need as determined by the Foundation;

  2. St. James Lutheran School Operating Fund – Fund that is used to provide support for the costs associated with operating and maintaining school operations;

  3. St. James Lutheran School Scholarship Fund – Fund that provides financial tuition assistance to families with children attending the St. James Lutheran School; and

  4. St. James Lutheran Church Fund - Fund that is used to provide support for the costs associated with operating and maintaining church operations.

An individual has the ability to establish his/her/their own named fund for a contribution of $25,000. That amount may be aggregated over time, including through one’s estate, with no time limit to reach the $25,000. If you, your family, or a group of people are interested in learning more, please contact the Foundation at foundation@stjameslaf.org or reach out to one of our Board members directly.
