Three for Me Program: What Counts?
Families face a different reality day-to-day than they
did a generation ago. Parents spend far less time together with their children
and most all parents face struggles to balance the demands of family life with
their jobs. Parents are under tremendous pressures that make them less able to
participate in their children’s lives and there is a greater need than ever to
be involved with their child, particularly in education.
According to a recent poll in Newsweek, nearly 40% of parents across the
county believe they are not devoting enough time to their children’s
education. The major issue will only be solved through a joint effort
involving parents, schools and community.
Schools must respond to the needs of parents and provide the supports needed
for them to be involved in their child’s learning. At the same time, parents
need to slow down their lives, stress the life-long importance of getting a
good education, and serve as role models for their children.
Research clearly confirms that, regardless of the economic, racial, or
cultural background of the family, when parents are partners in their
children’s education, the results are improved student achievement, better
school attendance, reduced dropout rates, and decreased delinquency. Three for
Me was created to open the door at schools and connect families, schools, and
communities to enable all children to meet high standards.
We need parents in our school! Make the effort for your child today by signing
a promise card to give three hours per semester of your time and be a part of
their educational experience. Both you and your child will gain so much!
